What Does The Following Cholesterol Levels Indicate?

HI and thank you!I am a 31 year old female, I have 2 children, one is 3.5 and one is 4 months old. I am about 10 pounds overweight for my height and age. I consume LARGE quantities of milk and I have since the pregnancy of my first born.My PCP recently ordered a blood panel on me since it has been years since my last workup. My Cholesteral came back at 263, LDL 173, HDL 57 and TRI 168. WOW...however...I was not aware, nor did the nurse tell me that I had to fast for this bloodtest. In general my diet is moderate, I eat what I should and eat what I shouldn't, probably more of what I shouldn't have while pregnant this last time.I am serioulsy stressing about my levels. I just can't believe they are that high. Could the fact that I did not fast before my test perhaps play a part in the high readings, or is this test cumulative?

Welcome to HCM.

As you have correctly indicated that your blood cholesterol as well as LDL are high, however the good news is that your HDL levels is also quite high. HDL is a good cholesterol. Lipid profile is done when you should be fasted. It is quite possible that the increase in your cholesterol maybe because of the fact that you were not fasted. It may be worthwhile to redo your blood lipid levels when you are fasted.

Of note, the increase in cholesterol can be controlled with lifestyle adjustments such as exercise and balanced diet. Please feel free to write in about your progress and any recommendations about lifestyle changes if needed.

Hope this helps.
