Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I gave birth 21 years ago. About two days after I was home alone and felt dizzy and faint. I knew something was not right. I went to doctor and had a MRI but nothing show on it. I have short term memory problems, black floaters in my eyes, speech has improved over the years. I used to have trouble thinking of what to say. I am on anti-depressant medication. My doctor has asked me if I thought I had bipolar disorder and now I am wondering if I have PBA disorder. Since stoke did not show up on MRI the doctor said it might have been to small to see. Can this be true? I feel like nobody believes how I feel. I have not been the same since that night.
Yes it is true that some of the lesions in MRI after a stroke can be too small to see but persons experience symptoms clinically. Since you are on antidepressant medication, the doctor has asked you whether you think you have any symptoms of bipolar disorder because the drugs used for it is not the same. Symptoms of bipolar disorder, apart from depression are, elevated mood, irritability, inflated self esteem, increased spending/religiosity and increased physical activities etc.
Hope this helps, Dr A Rao
