Swollen Painful Forearm Due To A Cat Bite. Need To Get Checked?

My cat bit me in the forearm last night in the middle of the night. It bled a small amount. I rinsed it with H2O2, and applied triple antibiotic ointment with a bandaid. It bled more, so I changed the bandaid this morning, applying more ointment. It is now mid-afternoon and the bite is swelling and becoming more painful. My cat's rabies vaccination is current. I am taking vitamin C and bromelain. I have no medical insurance and no money so I can't go to any kind of clinic or ER, and for reasons too complicated to explain do not qualify for free clinics. What else can I do? Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Rabies is a fatal disease and you should be vaccinated for that.
What about your tetanus injections? Please consult your doctor for that.

Increasing swelling and pain could indicate infection. So consult your doctor who may start you on a antibiotic.
You are not supposed to cover a wound with band aid after animal bite and you should leave it open.

Hope this helps.
Take care.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

For pain, rest to the part is important
Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs like ibuprofen reduce pain & inflammation
Cold compress in first days / later warm compress - help

For bleeding, compression is all that may be required.
Rabies is preventable; getting yourself vaccination is safest option / if not, you need to watch the cat for 10 days...

If there is fever or other systemic symptoms,- go to ER...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck

Hello!
Thanks for the query.

You need to take anti-inflammatory medicines like diclofenac and paracetamol along with antibiotics like augmentin.
Continue with the regular cleaning and dressing with anti-septic agents.
It is better to get vaccinated for tetanus and rabies if not vaccinated recently.

Hope this helps you.
Thank you.
