Sore Throat, Cough, Itchiness In Throat, Lump In Throat. What Could It Be?

Hello Sir, recently I had sore throat which gradually developed into cough which lasted for six days.After this ended I again felt some itchiness on the left side of my throat. after two days I happen to discover a small lump at the same place (left side of my throat from inside). I have no problem in swallowing and neither does it hurts. Only if I press to hard it hurts. I am terrified. What could it be. Please help.

Hi Gauri,
Thanks for writing your query.

Sore throat can result in itchiness due to congestion. Swelling felt on left side of throat can be due to swollen tonsils as a result of infection.

Congestion can be relieved by taking antiallergic like cetrizine 10 mg once a day along with decongestants like phenyleherine or pseudoephedrine along with antiinflammatory drugs.
Doing gargle with antiseptic solution like Betadine Gargle two to three times a day will have added benefit.

You can have a Throat swab culture to know if any infection is present and can start antibiotic according to the report of the culture.

Avoid cold and spicy foods.

you may be having tonsillitis or any other pharyngeal infection please go for physical examination of you throat by any E.N.T. specialist only then final treatment can be planned
