Small Child, Fever, Excessive Sleeping, Hot To Touch, Chills, Rising Fever. Emergency Condition?
My 8 year old has had a fever of 100.3 since last night. Gave her Tylenol and then 4 hours later ibuprofen . At 10am today it was 101.5 so more Tylenol. She has been asleep all day. Now at 2:00 pm her temperature has risen to 103.7. What do I do? She is crying ans saying she is so cold but her body is hot. She has a dr appt in two hours but should I take her to the ER?

Your child seems to have Viral fever.
Because of high grade fever she is feeling cold.
Continue Tylenol for fever followed by tepid sponging with lukewarm water to bring temperature down.
Give plenty of oral fluids to maintain hydration.
Consult your Doctor as per your scheduled appointment.

Hello
High grade fever with chills may be due to infection( bacterial, parasitic or viral).
For controlling temperature give her paracetamol 6 hourly. You can use ibuprofen or mefenemic acid if paracetamol fails. Also do tepid sponging this is very effective method to reduce the temperature.
Don't get panic you can wait for two hours by following above if there is no other symptoms( like altered sensorium, breathing difficulty etc.). Give her plenty of fluids this will help in management of temperature. Blood test and urine test may be needed to find out the cause of fever.

it is better to not hurry to go to ER.
give her paracetamol 500 mg suppository.
sponge her body including the axilla & groin with worm water.
it will help her to decrease the body temperature.
