Pregnant, Developed High BP In Earlier Pregnancy, Same Now. Had No Proper Sleep. Could That Be The Reason ?

I am 29 yrs old ,now 8 weeks pregnant.During my first pregnancy I had high BP and Gestational DIabetes in the months 7th and 8th respectively. Both the medications were stopped imm.after delivery and after 3 months I developed high BP again and am still on medication. Now my dosage has been increased to Methyldopa 500 mg twice from 250 mg twice. In the early weeks my BP was under control and now it has increased to 130/90 again.I didnt have proper sleep for the past 3-4 days and do you think that this might be the reason or should I go to the doctor imm.She has also prescribed Aspirin 50 mg for me,is it safe?I have been started on insulin too since my fasting sugar level is high and it is under control now in the 90s range.Thanks.

hi,
your inadequate sleep could be the reason for increased blood pressure. however it is better to see your doctor, to be safe. aspirin 50 mg is definitely safe. it helps to reduce the increase of BP. and good blood flow to fetus. it is good that your blood glucose is under control with insulin.

wish you good health

General & Family Physician Dr. Het Ram Bishnoi 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Let me explain , that Methyldopa ( alpha-methyl analogue of dopa.).
This is a most safe anti hypertensive during pregnancy.
But now because of the availability of better tolerable agents , this is not used.
Your blood pressure is high in spite of double dose of methyldopa ( 500 mg).
In my opinion consult one more specialist/Physician and get his opinion(2nd) , he would like to change the medicine.
For diabetes insulin is safe , as you are using.
If possible upload the ultrasound of pancreas over this site for assessment of case.
Good luck.
Dr. HET
