Persistent Phlegm Inspite Of Cold And Cough, Phlegm Some Times Brings Up Dry Cough. What Does It Imply?
hi doc. My concern is, I have a phlegm since few years ago even if I don t have cough or colds, it is just white, but this past few days I had a sore throat then I had also a cough and colds, and now colds is gone but there are times that my throat produces phlegm with a little dry cough, why might be the implication of this doc?? recurrent cough, cold, phlegmen, little dry cough, new colds, again going off...........all these can be a feature of asthma
is there any chest tightness or wheezing????
is there any family history of asthma????????
u need to have.......
1. total serum IgE estimation
2. skin allergy test
3. RAST if possible
4. serum eosinophil count
5. spirometry with BDR
i think if anything is there it ll be diagnosed
need to consult an allergist

How are you? I hope you and your family are in good health. White phlegm is usually normal. You do not need to worry about this. Phlegm is just mucus produced by our body, this can in in response to an irritant such as smoking. Phlegm can be due to post nasal drip which occurs due a bone in the nose being displaced to one side, you need not worry about this either as it is very common and does not cause any problems. Phlegm can be caused by Acid reflux from your stomach.
What i suggest you do is quit smoking if you do smoke, secondly remove irritants from your surrounding. Try to raise the head side of your bed by putting a brick under its legs, that will help you with the acid reflux.
Please keep the color of phlegm in check and if it changes its color to green or red. Please do see a doctor.
