I am a 38 year old male, who in the last two to three years, experiences chest tightness regularly. It happens most within the first two hours of the day. Usually goes away after a shower. Worsens the day after excessive drinking. Beer seems to be fine, just no wine or liquor (used to be able to drink wine/liquor). If I drink too much beer, I do get the same effect. I am very addicted to smoking. The "Chest tightness" will go away when I drink beer only to return in the morning. I have a history of asthma. Some days I wake up and feel completely fine, but can never predict what kind of a day it will be. Some days it will stay with me the entire day. Some, it will go away. But is more and more frequent. I also experience anxiety regularly, and will manifest itself through physical symptoms. Usually cannot tell what is happening, or that a current symptom is related to the anxiety. My anxiety will appear as neck pain, back pain, chest tightness (I think) etc.... Thank you for your response.
Best.

Hi , My husband is having Chest tightness and Chest heaviness from last 1 year. He was on nexium for 5 months and he stopped it 15 days back. After stopping his chest tightness and Chest pain disappeared. But Stomoch acid started comming ito his mouth. Today he took rantac for that. Again Chest tightness and Chest heavyness came back. He cleared his all basic health checkups. Now what to do?

doctor1 MD

Hello,

Welcome to Healthcaremagic,

Chest tightness or chest pain are very uncommon side effects for proton pump inhibitors (Nexium) and although these may be there for the anti histamines used against allergy still are not reported for the antihistamines used against acidity (rantac).

Still if...

Dear Madam,
Thanks for your query to health care magic.
We have ruled out pulmonary embolism. How much is your latest Hemoglobin levels. Because if it is more than 10gm/dl then it is unlikely to be the cause of your shortness of breath.
Tell me about your asthma. What medications are you on?...

Whenever I eat dairy products I get a lot sinus drainage followed by chest tightness, nausea, and sometimes vomiting. I use an inhaler and/or Primatene to relieve symptoms. I'm concerned because the symptoms are getting worse.

Hi, I ve been experiencing chest tightness for over a month. It is not constant, but periodic. I ve been to my GP who listened to my chest and found no wheezing. She prescribed Advair 2x/day for a month and had me see her after 2 weeks of use. She said my lungs were clear but to finish the month on Advair so that we can stabalize the tightness. I am in my 3rd week now and am currently experiencing the Same degree of tightness that caused me to go to her 3 weeks ago. The only things i ve changed with my lifestyle in the past couple of months is going on the Pill for the first time in my life (starting in Feb.). I am now 35. And i ve added daily fish oil capsules as a dietary supplement. Can any of these cause intermittent chest tightness or could it be more serious, like asthma, lung disease or even Cancer? (I have never smoked in my life but my father smoked in the house when i was growing up.)

HI since about February i have had trouble falling asleep because of racing heart and slight chest tightness. it seems to happen mainly when i am trying to relax and most times after drinking alcohol. I also used to always sleep on my stomach but now i cant because i feel it causes more discomfort. when im laying on my stomach i feel like i can feel my heart beating a little bit harder so i try sleeping on my back. sleeping on my back does help but i still will experience the palpitations. its really scary so i usually cant fall asleep till i am extremely exhausted. I am in pretty good health i have good blood pressure, no blood disorders, and no previous heart conditions. I had my heart checked at the doctors and he said it was fine but i also was not having an episode at the time of my visit. the reason i am here is because my insurance is expired till august and was hoping to get some answers

Hi, I have been suffering for 7 months with a whole range of symptoms and I seem to be getting nowhere with my doctors. After being ill for about 5 months I had an anxiety attack while driving on the motorway and now the doctors always revert back to anxiety as the root to my problems.even though I was ill for 5 months prior to the anxiety attack. I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure and Im on my 4th brand of BP tablets and beta blockers. I admitted myself into A and E on numerous occasions with chest pains, light headedness and abdominal bloating and diarrhoea but after an ECG, blood pressure and blood tests they say it s probably a reaction to the BP medication. I have been on an ECG monitor for 5hrs in the hospital, had a 24hr portable ECG fitted, loads of blood tests, 24hr urine sample, cardio scan (the one with the jelly) and liver scan (because I drunk heavily for years but now have cut down dramatically). All tests have come back as OK but I m still suffering. My wife has been diagnosed with Helicobacter Pylori which, after extensive research on the internet, it s not certain whether or not it is contagious so I m being sent for a breath test on Wednesday and a 24 hr BP test on Friday. My symptoms are: Chest pain (front and back), chest tightness, palpitations (periodically), stomach pain, excessive gas (both ends), stomach swelling with an aching feeling in the stomach and sides, periods of diarrhoea (the last bout lasted 30 days), chronic fatigue, occasional blurred vision which lasts a full day, skin blotching on the arms, I can only lie on my back when sleeping…if I lie on my side I get weird sensations in my chest which makes me jump, I sometimes have trouble sleeping, movement of air from stomach to anus (rumbling), when driving I start feeling nauseous and get tight chested (it seems to be the car vibrations which causes it), I sometimes feel light headed (while sitting or laying down) and feels like Im going to faint, pressure in my temples and tingling sensations in my arms and legs. Can you please help?
