On Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Sensitive To These Medication. Getting Worse. Why ?

I've been on Zoloft 200 and wellbutrin 150xl (I was on sr 100) it's been over 6 weeks and not much difference other than feeling anxious. I've been on anti-depressants for a good part of my life. I am 59. psychiatrists just want to increase all the time, but I am sensitive to med;s, I feel worse. I wish a doctor could really help me out. suggestions would be greatly appreciated. why is it so hard to find a doctor to help--I've been praying over 20 years. there was a dr. wm. annatto who helped me out and moved. I heard he is at UMDNJ and cannot locate him. could you help me.

I would like to know what disease you have been having, what are the symptoms of mental illness. The drugs you are taking (especially sertraline/ Zoloft) is effective for anxiety as well as for depression.
Bupropion (Wellbutrin) is not effective for anxiety.

You must consult a psychiatrist to know what is your diagnosis and he will give you medications accordingly. If these two medications are not effective, there are many other options including complementary & alternative medications, lifestyle changes, yoga and meditation.

We need to know more about your illness to help you further.

Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

Sertraline and bupropion are good, potent anti depressant drugs.

The reason for non-improvement should be
- Inadequate dose of drug
- Poor compliance on your part
- Additional psychiatric illness like substance use
- Physical causes like hypothyroidism or vitamin b 12 deficiency
- Drug resistant Depression

You should consult your psychiatrist for detailed evaluation to find out exact cause of non-improvement.

You may get benefit by psychotherapy or stress management and relaxation therapy like yoga, meditation and breathing exercise.

Thanks.

Psychiatrist Dr. Sundar Gnanavel's  Response
Hello....
Thanks for your query. Zoloft is sertraline, a SSRI and wellbutrin is bupropion, an antidepressant of NDRI class. I would generally not prefer wellbutrin for anxiety symptoms since they worsen some types of anxiety symptoms like panic symptoms. I would suggest only continue to zoloft and wait for atleast another couple of weeks as an initial worsening of anxiety symptoms is common. Wish you good health and speedy recovery.
Regards
