Need Suggestion For Postnatal Woman Complain Of Sore Nipple
what advice will you give to a postnatal woman complain of sore nipple who would like to breastfeeding initiation ? also what are the follow ups would you do after that? and what investigations would you undertake? what medications would you prescribe ?thank for today

Hi,
Sore nipples are very common post natal complication..not to worry about it. You don’t need any investigations as long as you don’t have fever or pus like discharge or lumps in breast. The treatment for sore nipples would be:
1) Applying nipple butter
2) Breast milk
3) Hot or cold water compression
prevention of it would be to encourage your baby to latch to nipple+areola rather than just nipple and alternate breast to be used for feeding.
