Liquid stool all night. Have stomach cramps and flu like symptoms. What is wrong?

I have been up all night pooping liquid stool . I would lay down and get an urge to go. This is a constant every couple minutes. I also have an extended stomach with slight stomachs pains. I felt a bit feverish when it started so I thought it could be flu like but now feel fine with no urge to vomit but Im still pooping constantly. What does this mean?

Emergency Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi Hayleyartis,
Thanks for writing your query.

It seems that you are suffering from infection of the gastrointestinal tract.
You should get yourself examined at the Emergency Department for your hydration and other vitals like blood pressure , pulse ,etc. and start treatment as needed.

Get your stool examined. This will help to know the kind of organism causing the infection.

You should take antibiotic, antiamoebic and antacid along with probiotic after getting yourself examined. Antispasmodic will help to relieve stomach pains.

Take care of your hydration. If feeling dehydrated, you should take oral rehydration fluids. Make your diet light and less spicy and less oily. Drink pure filtered water only.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Psychiatrist Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

The multiple episodes of loose stools and fever indicate that you are having a gastro-enteritis - that is, an infection in the digestive tract. Now, most infections of the digestive tract are caused due to viral infections and are mostly self-limiting.

Treatment will primarily involve replenishing the water and salt due to the frequent loose stools. In some cases, antibiotics may also be required. So, I would suggest that you take an oral rehydration solution (ORS) like elecral to keep yourself well hydrated. You can take paracetamol for the fever and take adequate rest. In case the loose stools are persisting for more than 3 days or your develop any other complications, then you need to see a doctor for further evaluation and treatment.

Wish you all the best.
