Lethargic, Sleepy, Difficulty In Talking. Borderline Diabetic. Is This Associated With Diabetics?

My mother is what they consider borderline diabetic. she does take meds of which i do not know that dose or name. Couple of days ago she had an episode where she appeared very lethargic , sleepy and stated that she could not talk. Said she could hear us talking to her, but couldn't respond . Would that be associated with sugar?

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Lethargic and feeling very week may be due to her varying sugar levels. If you can tell us her sugar levels, any associated disorder, age, activity level, the drugs name she is using we can discuss in detail on it and also whether it is due to those drugs, side effects. Since now she is fine and borderline diabetes ask her to take only required amount of calorie intake and with regular exercises like aerobics, cycling, jogging, swimming etc. Have healthy food, and kindly let me know about the drugs so we can discuss on alternative and avoid any problem if it is due to drug. Hope I answered your question.

Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Hello,
These symptoms could mean an uncontrolled blood sugar levels.
She could also be having high blood pressure as this is common with diabetic patients.
You need to consult a diabetologist or an internal medicine specialist to get herself evaluated properly and then properly medicated.
There is no scope of being casual as timely intervention can save emergency situations from arising.
She needs to be tested for blood sugar fasting,PP ,HBA1c,cardiac status, cholesterol levels etc.
Thanks

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Since you mentioned that your mother is a borderline case of diabetes.
Perhaps she is using medicine for diabetes.
If she is taking anti diabetic drugs then there are chances of Hypogycemia ( diminished sugar level)and Hypogycemia develops syncope ( as you mentioned ).
So consult a Diabetologist and get his opinion.
2nd reason may be high blood pressure and low blood pressure ( both).
3rd reason may be stress & tension.
Get in blood for sugar, lipid Serum creatinine level.
Good luck.
