Is Visit To Gastroenterologist Necessary After Having Non Hodgkins Lymphoma?

My Mum has recently been diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and has had one course of Chemotherapy, she has her second treatment this Wednesday. She is coping remarkably well for a lady of 83. She has to see a Gastroenterologist tomorrow. Why could this be? Could it be a follow up from a consultant she saw in Hopsital 5 weeks ago. We are praying that there is nothing else wrong.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

A gastroenterologist is a doctor who treats problems with the digestive system, liver and pancreas. It is possible that your mother has a manifestation of non hodgkins lymphoma in the digestive system or is have a condition due to treatment that might have affected the digestive system including liver and pancreas.

It is good to have a consultation when referred for one by the treating doctor. Please go through her reports and find out if there is any condition that is to be discussed in detail with the gastroenterologist. Non hodgkins lymphoma is a condition that might involve any organ. Please do not worry.
