Is Treatment Required For Hypothyroid Even If The Tsh Fall Within Range?

I have a tsh of 2.46 and my doctor wants to treat me for hypothyroid. According the the lab report, my tsh falls within normal range. my reflexes were tested and she felt they were a little slow. Does this seem correct or should I be looking for another doctor?

Thank you for the query.
L-thyroxine supplements are given as a treatment for hypothyroidism. As per your reports, you have a TSH level of 2.6 but you haven't mentioned any symptoms which you may be having. Also I would like to know your age, gender and whether you are already on thyroxine supplements (if so the dose of the medications), because the normal level of TSH may be due to the medications itself, and once you stop them, the profile may be deranged again. Hypothyroid subjects may have symptoms like lethargy, weight gain, hair loss, dry skin, irregular menstrual cycle etc.
You can get your thyroid profile as a whole done (FT3, FT4 and TSH) and get yourself reassessed by your doctor.
