Hi,thanks for query.Fibroid with symptoms needs treatment and that is surgery.Because continuous heavy bleeding will lead to loss of blood and low hemoglobin, which can affect your day to day life. It is better that you see a doctor and get operated.bye.

General & Family Physician Dr. P. Mahesh's  Response
Hi welcome to HCM.
Fibroid is a solid thing where as cyst is a fluid filled structure. If there is cystic changes in your fibroid it suggests that your fibroid is undergoing cystic degeneration. It is not the fibroid that is important in decision making but the symptoms that it causes. Your back pain, lower abdominal pain and heavy bleeding strongly suggest that you should have hysterectomy (removal of the uterus). If you did not have any of these symptoms, then fibroid could have been left alone as it would gradually shrink, once your periods stop (menopause).
It is better to have surgery, in your case.

Hello. My story is this and its affecting my quality life quite rapidly. Sept. 2011 I had a vaginal hesterctomy leaving my ovaries. They did sonograms prior b/c my main complaint was very heavy periods and pain. They found cysts in the ovaries and fibroids on the uterus. After the surgery while in the hospital it was impossible to get my pain under control. I told the nurse I could hear my heart beating in my right ear. She then called the Dr. and they suggested a CT scan . They found internal bleeding and needed to do a blood transfusion . They needed 2 bags. So an extra night in the hospital. I had angels for nurses- thank goodness. I developed fever and vomitting from the transfusion. The final day I did everything possible to be discharged because the same Dr. said he would have to operate again to find the reason for bleeding. I over all did not like his bed side manner and his lack of information and care. So I went home. Ended up with an affection. Not sure what kind because he never ever called me in to a urine test or any other test. I couldn t sit down with out my pain going to a 9 or 10 and my urine was very dark in color as well as very very foul smelling. I did have a temp. as well. I called my Dr. and asked for antibiotics. I should have gone to the ER. Any rate, took the antibiotics so by the time, a week later, getting into the Dr. office no infection was showing up with a urine test. But the pain on my right side where the internal bleeding was and my self diagnosed infections has never ever gotton rid of the pain. I ve been to other Dr. after 2 months with the one that performed the surgery. The obgyn performed a diagnostic laproscopic surgery. She found cysts in my right ovaries as well as my right ovarie adhered to my large intestine. I also had a general surgeon come in after the gyno and he performed a bi lateral hernia repair. Since all this, I have had none stop pain on my right side. I have had to pain doctors. The first on was a quack and the current one I respect and feel confortable. I am currently on nucenta er 50 mg and nucenta 50 ir for break thru pain. He is now suggesting to perform a radio frequency ablation in hoping to get several months release. He is also wanting to switch my med to methadone. He said it is used for nerve pain.. I want my life back!! I m 37, married, 2 kids and just want to enjoy every blessed moment that I have to share with my family. I m sad and lost in intense pain and don t know what to do from here.

i did an ultra sound on my pelvic which showed that i have fibroids, measuring 9.5*7.0*5.8cm the uterus was anteverted and bulky, there was an anterio-fundal firroid with echogenic rim (calcification) and measured 5.2*4.0cm some smaller intramural fibroids, at least two measuring 1.2-1.5cm, right ovary appeared normal and measured 3.7cm in length, with a volume of 8.5cc. simple cyst measure about 7.3*4.6 cm was noted to the left ovary and there were no other adnexal masses or free fluid. what does this really means. will i be able to get pregnant again my husband and i have a 9 years old son and we are thinking of having another child will i need to do an operation or what please advise me .

hello doctor..as per my ultrasound scan, the uterus is anteverted and bulky in size, it measures 9.2 x 7.6x8.2 cm. Endometrial echoes appear normal. A large intramural fibroid measuring 8.0 x 6.1 cm is seen in the posterior Myometirum displacing the Endometrium anteriorly. Another small fibriod measuring 3.5 x 3.6 m is seen in the anterior Mymetrium. ET=9mm...I was told to go in for surgery...is this necessary?..is there another alternative?..

I recently had a swollen and hurting breast. I also had a discharge of a milky brown liquid which had blood in it. The swelling & hurting is gone, but I still have a bloody discharge from the breast. I ve had fibroids in my breast for years. Can it be the fibroids bleeding? I had uterian fibroids for which I have a hysterectomy and removed over 10 years ago.

I am 56 and have had scyatic pain and lower groin pain and pain on my left side at my waist in the back. I have all my female parts, (till two days from now) I went to Family Dr with symptoms. Oh yeah I am post menopausal also. He sent me for X rays, and an MRi. I have deteriorating arthritis/ The pain is more intense than childbirth (with no pain meds, I had for deliveries) . I asked him about fibroids because a year earlier while in the hospital with kidney stones, they found a fibroid that measured about a 4cm. could it be growing? he said prob not because I m post menopause and they usually don t grow then. At this time I was into my 3rd month of pain with no help yet. My FP said we can have a CT scan with contrast, which I did, It showed that the fibroid had grown to 5cm. So he sent me to GYN and he gave me several options , and because of other health issues I decided that the first two were to risky and have decided to have the hysterectomy, in a couple days. No one can tell me is the fibroid is causing the severe pain I am having so I have no idea if this is going to help my main concern. *the pain* . All of this brings me to several questions. Is this thing really growing or did someone just miss measure? (I have never been diagnosed wih fibroids before.. If it ( hyste) dosen t work will it cause me any other problems that I don t need. This pain has been at a pain level of 8 to 10 for 6 months now. pain meds aren t really touching it and I ve tried a steriod shot, steriod pack, muscle relaxer and pain pils (norco 7.5) do you have any comments?

Hello, I had a complete hysterectomy in December of 2012. Since then, I have had severe foot pain with sharp shooting pain in my feet and toes along with extreme soreness in the foot joints, pain in my legs and in my groin, as well as stinging sensations along the incision site in my abdomen. The incision is healed but still purple, swollen, and numb in areas. At times I can hardly walk and I had a fairly active lifestyle before hand. The doctors I speak to seem perplexed and claim that the surgery would not have caused this but I didn t have the problem before. I had the uterus removed, tubes and ovaries, and pre cancerous cervical cells, fibroids, endometriosis, cysts and tumors. The endometriosis had caused scar tissues that had to be scraped from my bladder. I am 53 and I was never able to become pregnant or have children. I love not having to deal with the periods and hormone related pain and migraines, but I m not sure I like the trade off either- I am on low dose estradiol and I use a vaginal cream 2x week because the pain having sex was tremendous! Any thoughts as to what this might be? I don t feel like myself anymore.
