Is It Also Safe To Use Mederma For Elevated Bump Around Eye ?

Hit head Halloween week after passing out in bathroom. Hit area above eyebrow on shower door handle, went tl the ER, got stitches, and had black and blue eye for about 2.5 weeks. I am using Mederma to prevent scarring but there is an elevated bump, right above the scar line that still feels numb. What is that and will it go way? it is not discolored.

Hi,

I can understand your concern for elevated bump around eye.

In your case it is due to the formation granulation tissue near the healing site as well as the edema due to inflammation near surrounding tissue.

Do not use mederma cream as it can irritate the area more.

For time being period you can apply antibiotic cream such as fucidin or mupirocin and take pain killer tablets such diclofenac or paracetamol.

Do not try to even touch or pinch the area as can cause more aggravation of the problem and spread of the infection.

If it is increasing despite the treatment then meet a family physician and get a proper treatment without delay for the oral antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin or cefadroxyl 500 mg two times a day for 5 days to prevent secondary infection.

Take care.
