Is Mupirocin Effective In Clearing Dry White Patches On Scalp?
Hello, my 3 year old son has a dry white patch in his hair. Now the hair is not growing in that area. I tried to shampoo it with a medicated shampoo like sulfer 8 and sea breeze skin cleaner but it has spread to another spot. So now he has a few of the spots in his head. My aunt gave me mupirocin for the spots. I have not used it yet on him. Would this ointment help with his scalp.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that your son is suffering from Cradle cap that is a fungal infection of the scalp and the medication given to you that is Muricoprin is an antibiotic that can treat bacterial infections.. I would therefore suggest you to first consult a Trichologist or a Paediatrician and get evaluated and he can also do a microscopic examination of scrapings from the scalp and treat you accordingly..
In case if Cradle cap is confirmed as the diagnosis your son will be advised to wash his scalp with an antifungal shampoo containing Ketoconzole, zinc, selenium, sulfide and coal tar.. You can also be advised to apply steroid lotion over the scalp.. Keep the scalp dry and clean and avoid moisture accumulation..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
