How To Treat White Sores On The Top Of My Throat?

Hello. I have braces, and two of my wisdom teeth are breaking out. I have already made plans to have them removed, but i also have huge white sores on the top of my throat next to the uvula. I can't swallow anything or even speak normally because of these sores. What can be done to help?

Hi
With your query, for temporary relief you can do warm saline gargling and avoid cold fluids. You can also use chlorhexidine mouth wash but visit to your doctor is must to rule out the exact cause and for permanent treatment. It might be a sore throat or bacterial or fungal infection. AVOID CONSUMPTION OF NICOTINE OR ALCOHOL IF YOU HAVE TGE HABIT.

Dentist Dr. Lizabeth Sloane's  Response
Hello,
You want to try to reduce inflammation. Medications include acetaminophen such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen such as Advil and antihistamines such as Benadryl. Corticosteroids are powerful and help reduce inflammatory reaction. If symptoms worsen and you have difficulty breathing, you may have an allergic reaction and must seek immediate care. You may soothe your throat with warm salt water rinses and be sure to keep well hydrated. If area is ulcersted, avoid spicy foods. Softer diet is recommended. An important factor is a nutritious diet, well-balanced and no vitamin deficiencies. Maintain good dental home care.
Antibiotics or anti-fungal medication may be required to cure the source of your symptoms. Your diagnosis could include oral infections such as the thrush, strep or a viral condition. The uvula or tonsils can be inflamed and feel swollen. You may have a respiratory infection or sinus infection. Post nasal drip can be very irritating to the back of the throat. You can try a decongestant or nose spray for sinus involvement.
I suggest you consult with your dentist for a definitive diagnosis and start treatment accordingly. Your dentist can prescribe a mouth rinse that includes pain relief. if viral, there are liquids that may help coat the area offering some relief. Thank you for your inquiry. Try my recommendation for some immediate relief.
