Hi,I am Dr. Carol Rogala (Emergency Medicine). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my mother had a heart attack at 48, she smokes but is not overweight and has a fairly healthy diet, Her mother also died of a heart attack at 62... the doctors have said that I now have an increased risk of heart attack as the cause was heart disease and there is a genetic link. How increased is my risk
you dint mention your age sex diet, other habits like smoking drinking work stress etc.there can be a genetic link to heart diseases. main culprit for heart attack is smoking and work related or other stress. 1.Avoid stress 2.QUIT SMOKING(any form of nicotine) 3. Do some physical activity(cardio mainly..like walking cycling jog or swimming depending on age) 3.eat a healthy diet avoid stress by doing meditation, 4.STAY HAPPY 5.Follow up with your family doctor.
HI Well come to HCM That is not the case all the time if there is family history of heart attack and having some risk factor too, so this may not be possibly due to genetic one but chances of having this disease because of other causes would be more likely than the genetic one, if you want to avoid this then you have to change the life style, like cut down calorie diet, no smoking, no stress, start exercise, have a enough sleep of seven hours, hope this information helps, take care.
