High Endometrial Cells In Pap Smear Test Should Be Worried About? Does Progesterone Pills Help Keep Away Hot Flashes?
Hi, I have a ? about endometrial cells in excess in my last pap smear;they tried to do a biopsy and couldn't, then scheduled an ultrasound and told me it is fine. Dr put me on estradiol and progesterone, I am having my first period in 6 month (very painful). Should I keep taking hormones? They help w/ my severe hot flashes. I have a new refill for 90 estrogen pills but only 30 progesterone pills. Do I only need estrogen to keep hot flashes at bay? Do I need to worry about the endometrial cells? Thank you for taking the time to answer. Trish
Hi Trish. I suppose you are menopausal as you are talking of hot flushes. High endometrial cells does not mean anything. If cells are showing any dysplastic changes, then it is of concern. Get your Pap Test repeated alongwith HPV DNA,next time. Regarding estrogen pills. They do control symptoms like hot flushes, But need to be added with low dose estrogen with low dose progesterone for last 10 days to avoid unopposed action of estrogens, which will be having side-effects like endometrial hyperplasia and risk for endometrial and breast cancer.Thanks.
