Hangnail Infection Still Not Healed. How Do I Drain It Pus?

Hangnail infection still not healed after 3 weeks, it has gotten much better but it s still open in between the side of the nail and the skin, doesn t hurt anymore, but the very side of the nail on that side is a bit white/yellow ish and I wonder if it s pus under the nail ? If so how do I drain it out ?

Hello and welcome to HCM,

The condition you described is called as paronychia / onychomycosis. It can be due to bacterial or fungal infection.
Take a short course of oral antibiotics like
amoxyclav OD for 5 days and apply a topical anti-fungal like sertaconazole
or griseofulvin with steroids (like onabet B), and oral anti-inflammatory NSAIDs like paracetamol. Warm water soaks for 3-4 times/day, and observe for 15 days.
This ofcourse is an empirical treatment for we dont know if the infection is fungal or bacterial. If it doesnt resolve you may have to go for nail clipping for fungus and further management.
