Dear patient,

Thanks for your health concerns. By your description of your father's unfortunate events, he is likely suffering from advanced congestive heart failure, a condition in which the heart muscle is too weak to meet the circulatory demands of the body. The causes are many, but blocked arteries of the heart and prior heart attacks are common causes. The treatment initially involves a combination of several medications, including water pills, to improve symptoms. The defibrillator tries to prevent death from malignant rhythms that happen with this condition.

I strongly urge you to get your dad in touch with a local heart specialist who can start him on a combination of medications gradually over several weeks to see if his symptoms and heart function can improve.

Hope this is helpful, wish you and dad the best health,
