Fell At Elbow, Pain In Shoulder. What Should I Do?

I fell on some ice this morning and my elbow broke the fall. All my weight on my left elbow. I did not notice much pain at first but after a few hours I am having a lot of pain in my shoulder . It hurts to move in almost all directions. Some times it is so much pain it almost brings tears to my eyes. Is this something that needs a doctor or what could I have done.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query,

It might be soft tissue injury or fracture.

Without X-ray, it is difficult to differentiate a fracture from others. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.

In the interim, apply ice packs to the affected area,anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid lifting weight and rest well.

I hope this information has been both informative and helpful

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such trauma can always cause bones fracture. Even if the pain does not seem to be adequate to possible fractures. That is why the best way is to visit ER and have an X-ray performed. It will either rule out any trauma or confirm it and if so, you may need surgery depending of the type of the fracture.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
