Does Persistent Wet Cough Require Urgent Medical Attention?

My husband had a cardiac stress test. Test ran too short due to exercise distress (overweight w m 240, age 56 ht 5 7 ). Before the test he had difficulty breathing and persistent dry cough. although too short - test showed cardiac function normal. Follow-up chest xray appeared normal. Within hours he has developed persistent wet cough - racking chest coughing - going on 3 days. Should I be concerned?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Breathless and sputum production means possibly a respiratory tract infection or incipient heart failure. So please get it done chest x ray and echocardiogram then will come to know where is the problem is. In case of normal infection need antibiotics and mucolytics. But in case of cardiac failure need cardiologist consultation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
