Do I Need To Worry About Fibroid If My Pep Is Clean?
From a test, I found out that I have a thicker Uterine lining. My doctor wants me to have a biopsy and my first question was does it hurt a lot? and why is my doctor not using anasthesea? Previously I had polyps removed twice and I was told I have fibroids. My pep came out clean. Do I need to worry?
Hi, Thanks for the query. Thicker uretine lining can occur due to different causes. By taking biopsy and by doing histopathological examination of the tissue, the type of hyperplasia and the cause for it can be identified. It can be done as a OP procedure and anesthesia may not be required. If you want you can request your doctor to do it under anesthesia. History of polyps, presence of fibroids etc are indicating possibility of estrogen hyperactivity. That could be one cause for endometrial hyperplasia. After getting the histopathological examination report exact cause can be identified and treatment can be planned accordingly. Normal pap smear indicates absence of cervical pathology. It will not represent uterine pathology generally. Take care.
A pap smear and biopsy is recommend not when a fibroid or polyp is suspected, but cancer is suspected. As your endometrial lining was found to be thickened and you have a history of polyps, endometrial cancer will have to be ruled out. I am sure all is well, but it will be best to rule it out.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
