Diagnosed With Urinary Tract Infection And BPH. Taking Flotral. Recovery Period?

Hi! My father is 70 years old and had UTI and then Prostate level tests were done and he was diagnosed with BPH....he is taking Flotral 10 mg once daily...how much time will it take for him to get fine? I have read that alpha1 blockers relieve pain but does not cure disease so does this mean that taking flotral wont cure his BPH?

Hello dear,

In BPH, there is increase in size of the prostate gland, which compresses the bladder neck leading to various Urinary symptoms like urgency, hesitancy, etc.
UTI can be considered as a complication of BPH due to prolonged accumulation of urine in the urinary bladder.

Medications like alpha1 blockers relaxes the bladder muscles & provides immediate relief from the urinary symptoms.
But they do not cause reduction in size of the prostate.

Medications like Finasteride inhibits formation of the hormone which causes prostate enlargement.
But their effect is not immediate & may take 4-6 months to reduce the size of prostate.

So, kindly consult an Urologist & discuss regarding the management plan.
