Diagnosed With Eosinophilic Esophagitis, Gastritis, On Prilosec. Issues With Swallowing, Throat Red. Solution ?

I was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis and gastritis last July after being hospitalized with severe heartburn and chest pain and stomach pain. An endoscopy revealed 23 eosinophils per high power field. I tested for a low positive allergy to milk and was put on Prilosec 40 mg a day.

I went to another gi this year when I had issues swallowing, feeling like pills would get stuck in the back of my throat and it was swollen and red inside. I also had sinus pain. Gi performed another endoscopy because be said eoe symtpoms are not that. I now have no eosinophils in esophagus and everything looks fine.

I still be these twitches of pain in my stomach, left rib cage and side and sometimes in my right ribcage. I have only gotten them on Prilosec. Could that be a symtpom? I have been on Prilosec for a year.

Also, did my eoe go into remission or did I never have it and the eosinophils from first scope were something else?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding feeling of discomfort in swallowing and about one year back you were diagnosed as having eosinophilic esophagitis but now second time esophagoscopy report is normal. You are also having sinusitis.

Though you have sinusitis and this effect the G.I.tract indirectly by post nasal drip and by recurrent cough thus invites the GERD. so in my opinion you are having GERD which is giving discomfort in degulitition.

To treat it you should take-

(a) Antacids with PPI.

(b) Decongestant.

(c) Steam inhalation.

(d) Anti allergic / Anti histaminic.

Beside this consult ENT doctor for examination regarding sinusitis and difficulty in swallowing & necessary investigations as per his advice only than your treatment may be planed.

Regards.

Allergist and Immunologist Dr. Suman Kumar's  Response
the eosinophils are sin of alleries and i think your alleric sinusitis has developed into oesophagitis causing hyperacidity leading to all symptomps
it can be food allergies
i advise you to consult allery specialist who can help you to find cause of allergy and treat accordinly so that both problems can be solved
