Hi doctor, I am a 20 year old girl. I suffered from heavy hair loss. Now the hair loss has reduced considerably. However, I now have a bald patch on the center of my head. I am worried. I have low levels of hemoglobin. I currently take medicines for that. I need help for my hair.
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. I understnad that you have 2 issues- severe, diffuse hair loss and a bald patch. Severe hair loss is called as telogen effluvium. In your case, it could be due to underlying anaemia. Since you are on iron supplements, your hair fall will reduce and your hair cycle will come back to normal after the hemoglobin levels improve. You could also take a supplement containing biotin, cysteine and methionine for your hair loss. The bald patch which you have described could be a patch of alopecia aereata. You could apply a cream containing a steroid like mometasone in the morning and a lotion containing 2% minoxidil, tretinoin and Azelaic acid at bedtime. These have to be prescribed by your doctor and a regular follow up is necessary to check for response/ side effects. Hope this helps you. Take care.
