Could Ulcer Be The Cause Of Blood Vomit And Facial Swelling After Alcohol Consumption?
my sister is a heavy drinker and recently went to the hospital for bleeding while throwing up. They did some tests on her to determine what the bleeding might have been caused by and concluded it was an ulcer. But my concern is her stomach is distended (very) her face is very swollen and eyes appear to be "buggy". Could this be cirrhosis? never mind I do not want to pay for this
Both cirrhosis of liver and a peptic ulcer can cause vomiting of blood, though it is more commonly associated with cirrhosis of liver. Distended abdomen and swelling of face is also suggestive of cirrhosis of liver. But the best way to confirm would be to get an ultrasonographic examination of her liver as well as blood tests for liver function. There are no blood tests to diagnose a peptic ulcer. It requires an endoscopic examination of the stomach for confirmation.
Best wishes.
