Could Dandruff Be A Sign Of Hypothyroidism?

Hypothyroidism runs in both my sides of the family, and in the course of 2-3 months I've gained 20lbs and developed dandruff at the same time. I have been exercising 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes if not more and eating healthier but no results in weight loss or inches and it's been a little over a month since I started the exercise. I have also tried multiple dandruff shampoo's and nothing has stopped the embarrasing dandruff.Could dandruff be a sign of hypothyroidism?

Hi,

Hypothyroidism can cause dryness of skin and scalp and that could be one reason precipitating dandruff in you. Though it is not a common manifestation of hyothyroidism you should have your thyroid functions checked since you have strong family history of hypothyroidism.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
