Can Hyperthyroidism Cause Chronic Strep Throat?

I have hypothyroidism for the past 3 years. (Probably longer). I have researched everything about hypothyroidism. In my research I know I read something about chronic strep throat was a rare but a symptom of hypothyroidism. I usually get strep 5-8 times a year. So my question is there any link to hypothyroidism and chronic strep throat?

hi
Welcome to HCM. Thanks for posting question

Thyroid function is essential for immunity. So in hypothyroidism there is an increased chance of infection. That is the reason for increased strep infection in hypothyroidism.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.

Regards,

Dr Ajish TP [MD,DM]
