Child Has Fever, Tiredness, Body Pain, White Patch On Back Of Throat After Being Bitten By Dog. Concerned
Hi. My son was bit by a "stray" dog exactly two weeks ago. The wound wasn't bad and didn't require stitches, in fact it is completely healed. We took him to a clinic and were told to keep an eye in the dog until Juky 8th, she hangs around our apartment building. She had puppies a week or so before she bit our son and now someone has taken her and the puppies in are caring for her, she is showing no signs of rabies. This afternoon he began running a low fever and feeling tired and a bit achy. He hasn't complained of throat pain, but we noticed a white patch on the back of his throat. Should we be concerned that the fever has something to do with the dog bite? Thanks.
The fever and the throat problem does not have anything to do with the dog bite that your son had 2 weeks back. I suggest that you continue giving him acetaminophen/paracetamol and observe for another 24 hours. In case the fever persists and the white patch on the throat increases in size then you need to show him to your doctor.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
You should consult your doctor for antirabies vaccination. Rabies is a fatal disease and one should be given antirabies vaccination when bitten by a dog. Just observation of the dog is not enough.
