Post Rabies Vaccination For Dog Bite Should Alcohol Consumption Be Avoided?

hi i bitten by a family dog today that has bitten others the past month, as a precaution i have just been injected with what the dr told me was a chinese rabies vaccine... im in the country Georgia not the state in USA.. the Dr has stated that no alcohol is to be consumed for 6 months!! this completely contradicts all medical studies on rabies vaccines i have found on the internet that state there is no affect on its effectiveness to cure this virus? Can you please let me know if this is correct? by the way the dog shows no signs of rabies but we will monitor this over the next 10 days.

Hi,

There is no evidence to suggest that alcohol consumption can affect the effectiveness of the rabies vaccine in preventing rabies. However, excessive alcohol consumption can impair the immune system, which may affect the body's ability to respond to the vaccine.

It is always important to follow your doctor's advice regarding alcohol consumption, especially if you have received a vaccine or are taking medications. In this case, it may be best to avoid alcohol for some time to ensure that your immune system is functioning properly and to prevent any potential complications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
