Child Has Fever, Leg Pain, Moving Slowly. Should I See A Doctor?

My 3 year old son had a fever ranging from 100-103 for two days. Now it s day three and he is fever free so far for about 3 hours, however his legs are hurting. At first he wouldn t walk at all, now he does but moves very slow and almost sideways. He can put his weight on them because he stands, is this just from the fever and just achy now? Should I try to get into his pediatrician or no?

Hi,
yes ,this can happen with viral fevers as part of general viral illness and fatigue or viral myositis.
you give him some paracetamol and see if he walks with pain relief.
If he does not become normal in 48 hrs ,then you better show him to the doctor again.Wishing your son speedy recovery Dr uma

Hi Crystaldeleon,
Thanks for writing your query.

Viral fevers are usually associated with myalgia i.e. pain in muscles.
This occurs due to some biochemical changes in the muscles as a result of fever.
It takes few days for full recovery.

Give your child proper rest.
Maintain adequate hydration of your child by giving him healthy drinks including pure water.
Hot fomentation and application of pain relieving gel will give him some relief.

If the pain persists, you give him pain killer like Ibuprofen after discussing with his Paeditrician.
Give him fresh fruits and vegetables to increase his immunity.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
