Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Child. Swollen, Small Cut On Nose And Undereyem Vomiting, Fever, White Mucus Discharge, Sound While Breathing. History Of Fall. Concerning?
My 19 month old son fell and hit his nose across the bridge and has a small cut on his nose and one under his eye, That was 30 hours ago it is quite swollen, He has vomited once and had fevers, There is a white mucus coming out only everynow and then with a runny nose?? When he breathes its like he has a raddle in his chest
How much has the fever been? Injury can cause the swelling in the nose and running nose. However fever suggests upper respiratory tract infection which can explain the vomiting and transmitted sound in the chest.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Vomiting and runny nose after fall and head injury are concerning symptoms and the child needs examination immediately to look for any brain injury.
I advise you to take the child to emergency for examination and investigation like CT scan brain to rule out brain injury and X ray nose to look for any underlying fracture of the nasal bones.
Your child needs urgent medical help. There are certain problems after head injury one should monitor for. If a child has vomiting, seizures, bleeding from nose or ear then he requires urgent medical attention.
That discharge from the nose could be leakage of cerebrospinal fluid. (since you are mentioning that it started immediatly after the fall.)
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
