Abnormal LDL Level, Thyroid Issue. Family History Of Heart Attack

Hi, I am 40 yrs old & my LDL is 154. It has been as high as 199. I also have thyroid issue. I cannot seem to get it under control with just losing weight (*though that helped) & diet. My PCP does not seem to think its a concern. My dad had a heart attack at 62 yrs & he was pretty healthy (no smoking, drinking, drugs etc) but did not know he had high cholesterol. Should I be concerned? I am.

Hi and welcome!
Yes you should be concern of LDL cholesterol levels. You have two risk factors for developing ishemic heart disease (and heart atacks). Dyslipidemia and hereditary patern.
The best think to do in your case is to make dietary change. It's recomended a mediteranean diet (reach in vegetables fat, fish proteins and low in carbohidrates).
Also i recomend a lot of physical activities (walking, runing, cycling ect). Stop smoking if you use to smoke.
If this think dosen't work to low your LDL-CH you should ask your doctor for medications.
If i was your curring doctor i would use statins.
Hope it helped answering your question!
