50 Years. Prolonged Bleeding Without Any Pain. Hormonal Imbalance?

I just turned 50 years old. I have been bleeding now for about three to four months. I am not feeling any pain... is this part of going through menopause? Are my hormones just out of balance? Do I need to be concerned? I have a sister in law who is 40 years old. She had prolonged bleeding... when she was checked she had cancer of the Uterus.

Hi dear,
though you are in your premenopausal stage where irregular bleeding is common but, bleeding of three months definitely need to be investigated, especially with family history of endometrial cancer.
Things can go in any direcction from a benign disease to life threatening cancer.
Dont take things likely.
See your gynae at the earliest and get investigated

OBGYN Dr. Aarti Abraham's  Response
Hello
Thanks for your query.
When one goes through menopause, it is common to experience alterations in the pattern of menstrual bleeding.
However, bleeding continuously for 3 to 4 months is not at all normal.
YOu should most definitely have an assessment.
Causes could include fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia ( thickening of the lining of the uterus ), and ominously, as you mentioned, uterine cancer.
Please see a gynecologist.
Take care.
