What Does Yellowish Coating On The Tongue Of An Infant Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: Dear Doctor, my son is 7 months old and has a yellowish coating on his tongue. We showed it to his paediatrician who prescribed candid lotion to be put in his mouth. I have looked up this medicine online and all explanations say that it should only be applied externally. Please advise if this medicine is safe to be given orally to a 7 month old.

Brief Answer:
Use Candid mouth paint

Detailed Answer:
Hi....by what you quote I feel that it could be oral candidiasis or a type of fungal infection.

I suggest you use Candid mouth paint. It can be used or oral candidiasis as an application in the oral cavity.

He doesn't let me put anything in his mouth after the first time that I tried to apply the lotion. Shuts it tightly or starts crying and fussing. What are the other symptoms that I should be looking for oral candidiasis and how does it affect the baby? Can it go by itself?
