What Does Tingling Sensation In Left Hand Indicate Heart Problems?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: Last month I went to the ER becaue I thought I was having a heart attack at dinner I started to have a rapid heart beat and horrible anxiety. Weeks even before that I felt like I was having minor chest pains, they were not crushing pains more like in one spot type chest pains that would be there for like 15 or seconds and go away. So after that episode of the rapid heartbeat I just felt like I needed to be seen by the ER.

In the ER they ran 2 EKG's both Normal
Ran full blood test/pee test etc all normal
Ran heart attack enzyme test was normal as well.
Chest xray was normal as well to.

Followed up with my internist which does cardiology as well, he did a ECHO on my heart which was normal and 24-hr holter monitor wich was normal as well. So every test I have ran seems to be normal.

It has been a little over a month and I have been feeling that my arms and legs are little weak but more like previceved weakness, because I can lift things and also go for some activity outside like walk 2 or 3 miles with no issues, but i feel like they kinda of shake just relaxing. I seem to be sleeping okay im not tired during the day or anything. Last night after eating though I noticed that my LEFT arm felt little heavier and my hand started to tingle some, there was no other symptons going on. This lasted all night and still is happening the tingling in the hand seems to go away and come back but the arm feels little heavier than my right. It is just noticable heavier I can lift my arm and do everything with it.

I am starting think im going crazy but I also dont want to feel like there is something else going on. Do you think this is heart related? I am wondering if it is nerve related or maybe some type of MS symptoms? Just little confused here?

I am a male off 33 years of age I weigh 167 lbs and I am 5'9. This last year I have been taking some breaks from working out but before all this I was a prety avid athlete.

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms aren't related to cardiac problems..

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!

I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your symptoms doesn't seems related to cardiac problems as long as all the preliminary test were normal ( Ecg, echo, holter monitoring and cardiac enzymes).

A normal cardiac echo exclude the possibility of MS symptoms.

However I would recommend to do the stress test to completely rule out the possibility of any cardiac problems.

If you were my patient I would like to do some more examinations and consultation s:
- chest x ray
- neck and chest spine x ray (to exclude any rheumarismal problems)
- abdominal echo
- upper endoscopy ( the last two will exclude GERD and other gastrointestinal disorders)
- a neurologist consultation

Only if all examinations will be normal than your problems most probably are related to stress and anxiety disorders. In such a case contacting a psychologist will be of great help in treating your symptoms and complaints.

Hope this was of help!

Thanks for your reply.

I did forget to mention that my hands and feet are always cold for the most part, that has been normal in my life through the years. It also seems when my left hand would tingle it would also ache, there wasn't any other pains going on just the left hand/arm thing.

I do notice that after I eat i seem to get somewhat ANXIOUS and move my legs up and down like I cant sit still.

So, not saying this as a good thing but if the symptoms are not going away that is normally a good sign that it isn't anything cardiac related, correct? I would assume if it was it would be a lot worse by now?

I also had a abdominal ultrasound about 5 months ago which all organs that it hits were normal. This was due to some RUQ pain I was having. It just seems that every since I stopped working out random pains and things have showed up.

Following answer to your queries...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Yes it's a good sign that the things aren't worse after a month. This is also a fact that you haven't any cardiac issue.

Your symptoms seems more likely to be related to GERD and other gastrointestinal problems. This is why it's important that you do also upper endoscopy (apart abdominal ultrasound that you have done already).

Also i strongly suggest to do cervical spine x rays because this will exclude any anomalies that may be the cause of left hand weakness.

Meanwhile i strongly recommend to start exercising again because this will help you to deal with your symptoms.

Wish you health!
