What Does This Pap Smear Test Result Post Hysterectomy Indicate?
Question: I have a high risk squamous something something pap (which is the third one I've had since 2001.) The doc called and told me that result and wants me to come in and do some kind of cervical biopsy. I have had a total hysterectomy, etc and the last "laser" surgery, the oncologist told me all i have left is my vagina, vulva but no cervix. Since she can not do a cervical biopsy (obviously), what kind biopsy can she do?
ALSO, i have HPV with 14, 15, 18 in the numbers that are high risk (plus several other numbers).

It sounds as if your Pap smear results were High Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion (HSIL). The human papilloma virus can infect the tissues of the vulva and vagina, as well as the cervix.
having a hysterectomy does remove most of the cervical tissue but there can be some remnant of cervical tissue left behind. It is important that you continue to have regular Pap smears in the future.
Your doctor has recommended a biopsy to make sure that you do not have any type of invasive component of tissue changes that would require some type of additional intervention.
regarding the biopsy, your doctor will perform a biopsy of the tissue in the area of your original cervix or any other suspicious appearing tissue visualized during the procedure.
