Brief Answer:
Thyroid profile normal for on-medication but your wife has thyroiditis

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic. I have gone through both the reports.

Your reports are normal but you need to keep continuing the dose in the current amount and repeat the test again after months and follow up with your doctor thereafter.

Your wife is suffering from thyroiditis which is the cause of her hypothyroidism. But with respect to her present condition, the dose may be lowered slightly. Please talk to her treating physician with respect to the dose adjustment.

Brief Answer:
Thyroxin needs to be continued

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

Thyroiditis is a condition where the body's own antibodies mistakenly attack the thyroid gland to leak.

Hence initially there is excess of thyroid hormones followed by its deficiency when all the hormonal stock has leaked and the thyroid is depleted. This is the stage in which your wife is in. She needs supplementation of thyroxin which is likely to continue lifelong. I too would recommend the dose of 75 mcg as of now but the thyroid profile needs to be periodically tested at 6 monthly intervals. With proper medication, the condition remains in control. So, I am not going into the question of whether it is harmful.

Wish you and your family health.

Regards
