Question: HI last time I asked some queries on this site Again Im want to repeat As I find you are a cardiologist.

My Total cholesterol was 261 LDL 186 HDL 41 Triglyceride 166 Weight now 83 kg height 174 cm 10 days back i got this test done and my BP at that time was 132/80 And Blood sugar fasting 106.

I did not opt for statin and took on to life style changes as earlier I was living a very sedentary life and alcohol on daily basis. After changing my life style i stopped alcohol and stopped carbohydrates like rotis, rice and started taking fruits and green vegetables.Stopped taking non veg only took white egg.Now my weight dropped from level of 84.-85 to 83/83.2 kg Blood pressure is now 110-120/70-79 range.I have started doing 75 minutes of stationary cycling and burning 500/520 calories every day. Also Im taking juice of alovera, and taking a combination of isabgol,Khada Dhaniya(coriander seeds),Aniseed and cumin seeds after me meals 3 times(2 spoons) and also taking early morning a combination of Apples cider, onion, garlic and honey properly made as per formula advised by some people to me.Also i have kept a check on my diet.taking green tea and black tea

Brief are doing excellent
Detailed answer...
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
I feel very happy that you have changed your lifestyle and doing very good.
Ultimate target for your total cholesterol should be below 180,for LDL below 100 and triglycerides below 150.
Give a time of six months for your lifestyle measures.
If your target values are not met in 6 months time, then you should think of starting statins.
At the moment carry on with your exercises and nutritious diet.
There is nothing to fear and simply relax.
You are really doing very good.Keep it up.
Get a post prandial sugar level also checked up to know the exact status of blood sugar.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for  any further query.
Best of luck

Dear Sir

Many thanks for your revert and it has really boasted my confidence level which was very much down yesterday.

I request you to kindly suggest me some suitable diet naming vegetables, fruits which I should take and which I should avoid.I have read on net that banana pear apples etc increase sugar levels but on other hand its said that apple and pear has good fibre. Kindly suggest me the vegetables and fruits good for me? Also Can i have Jawar and bajra rotis? Does this two are good in my case? I taking all kind of pulses every day in lunch and dinner one serving. Is their any specific pulsesto be avoided? Kindly suggest .Also Im told that one more good thing is XXXXXXX ki Chaal which can be taken to reduce LDL. Kindly suggest for this and any specific company making it in your knowledge? and should I take it also? Awaiting your feedback eagerly and thanks for your kind answer.

You may avoid fruits like XXXXXXX banana, grapes, cheeku etc which have high glycemic index but occasionally can still be taken as you are not a diabetic.
No harm in taking apple, pear, guava etc.
BAJRA and JAWAR rotis  are good.
Can eat any dal.
You may take ARJUNA KI CHAAL because Ayurveda does suggest it to be taken for high cholesterol.
try taking it of some good companies like CHARAK,BAIDYANATH etc

You have really done marvellous. Keep dong it as it is only a month.
Ideally lifestyle changes measures are followed for at least 4-6 months to see the proper result. So keep  doing it.
Your values are mostly normal except LDL which is still high  although bettervhan before.
HDL is low. The only sure shot way to increase is exercises only. There is no specific medicine for it.
Although fasting sugar is pretty good but still must get a 2 hour after breakfast sugar reading done.
You may continue BEVON CD for a month more.
You can take fish and chicken but either steamed or tandoori.
You can take couple of small pegs twice a week.
Carry on with your exercises.
I sincerely hope you should be able to achieve your parameters with your dedication, persistence and hard work.
Wish you best of luck

Recent questions on  High cholesterol

doctor1 MD

I am a 47 year old diabetic lady, who had a Gastric Band fitted three years ago, and lost 6 stones. Before having this procedure, I had slightly raised cholesterol, but not high enough for medication. Over the last three years my Total Cholesterol level has gradually increased from 5.4 to now 7.1 My Bad cholestrol is very high, but my good cholesterol is VERY good, I don t have the exact figures. My Dr put me on Simvastatin approx three years ago. I took them willingly, and carried on my life as best I could, not realising how tiered and exhausted they made me feel with lots of aches and pains, I thought my problems where early menopause. Anyway last year after much research on the internet, I discovered that statins could give bad side affect in concentration and tiredness and muscle weakness, so I decided to address this with my Dr. Who instead of listening, gave me another tablet to take on top of the statins, because my cholesterol had started to rise again. (Sorry don t have the name of this one) I took these for a month, and they made me almost incapable of getting out of bed, the tiredness was so debilitating. I decided to stop taking them, and the Simvastatins. So I gradually weaned myself off of the drugs. I had decided not to tell the Dr, so I did it on my own. Anyway, when I went back to the Dr about something else a few months later, I told them what I had done, they strongly advised me to take another type of Statin. This time Atrovastatin 10mg was to be taken. I said I would but if they made me feel bad, I would stop them straight away. I took them for 10 days and started to get all the same side effects so just stopped, and the Dr could not persuade me to re take them. Then this year I have had a cholesterol test, and I am now showing a total of 7.1 When they told me how high it was, I said I didn’t care, because Id rather die tomorrow, than spend any more time taking these drugs. Anyhow they persuaded me to have one more try, and have given me Fluvastatin 20mg. That was nearly a month ago, and I haven’t talked myself into starting to take them yet, but would just like some general advice about High Cholesterol. Does high cholesterol mean that I’m going to have a heart attack or does it just mean I might? I do have heart problems in my family, my mother died at 48 of a massive stroke, but she was very over weight, and my father has just been prescribed Simvastins, for his high cholesterol, and he like me now, is a very slight man, he is 74 years old, and has developed Altzimers. He has also started to complain about tiredness and weakness ( possibly the same side effects as me). He does not eat a lot of high fat foods, and often forgetting to eat at all unless it is put infront of him. Can cholesterol really be inherited? What can I do? I live in the Mediterranean most of the time, so I feel my life style is very healthy. I eat plenty of fruit and veg, I drink moderately and do not smoke. We cant get takeaway food here, so nearly everything is prepared from scratch. My only vice is butter, and that is only when I m worrying about all this. Is there any alternatives to Statins, I did read something about a dialysis machine for cholesterol? But that was a long time ago, and was in the early stage of development. Should I try these next ones, or just forget it and see what happens. I like my life now, When I was on the Simvastatins, I felt I had no life at all, almost like I was taking part in someone else s life, not quite mine. I don t want to go back to feeling like that. Please help....
