What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015
Question: I had some lab work done my platelets are 360 K/uL my WBC RBC H&H are within normal limits. My BUN is 22 mg/dL, creat 0.7 mg/dL and GFR is >60. This is the 2nd year in a row these have been abnormal. This year I am on a low carb diet, but not last year. Is there something I should be aware of? I see these elevated levels are only slightly elevated, but I am concerned about why they may be elevated at all. I am a white55 yr old Female overweight but have been losing weight on the low carb diet. If this should make a difference. Thank you for your time

Brief Answer:
Health is in good condition - continue with weight loss regimen

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Jyothi BL and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Platelet of 360 K or 3,60,000/micro litre is within normal range. Normal range varies from 1.5-4 lakhs/micro litre.

2. BUN and creatinine is within the normal range. I am not sure, how these values can be abnormal. The normal values, being provided by the lab maybe not. BUN varies between 8-25mg/dL and creatinine varies between 0.7-1.4mg/dL. When it is above these values, then its worrisome.

3. GFR reduces with age. It is normal for your age, not to worry.

4. No, you are in perfect good condition. Continue with low carbohydrate diet and loose weight. Take good amount of water - stay adequately hydrated. Moderate exercises will be helpful.

5. Losing weight will make a massive difference and improve your health. Do continue it.

Hope it helps.
