What Do These Blood Reports Indicate?

Posted on Mon, 2 Nov 2015
Question: Hi. I just had blood work completed. My ALT was 43. All other liver, bilirubin, glucose, platelets, RBC were all normal. I am 39/F/190lbs. Right before my bloodwork, I was having cramps (period related) and took ibuprofen and Tylenol on and off for four days. I have also been training for a half marathon and ran 8 miles 2 days prior to the blood test. I wanted to know if this factors into the slightly elevated result and is thus number something to be concerned. My doctor did not appear concerned but still wants me to follow up in 6 weeks. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
ALT alone, borderline raised - not to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood your history and concerns.
Since all the other parameters are normal except slightly elevated ALT, you have ran for 8 miles 2 days prior to the blood tests, means great tolerance, no weakness or any other clinical evidence, there is no need to worry.
It is possible that Ibuprofen and Tylenol night have been contributory factors.
Running does not increase any of the LFT.
I is possible that the next tests may be normal.
ALT is an enzyme of the liver, and can have been elevated for no apparent reasons.
It is just elevated borderline.
Was there any reason that the blood tests were done for?

I have hypothyroidism and have to have my blood work done every 6 months so that was why the testatute were ran.
