What Do These CT Scan Findings Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Jan 2016
Question: I have had some odd and troubling pains for over a week. I feel they must be related...but I just don't know. I had a CT Scan on Sunday because my doc thought she felt a mass in my lower left abdomen. Every morning there is a sharp pain radiating down my left leg. I thought I may have pulled something working out. My doc thought she felt a mass. The CT Scan showed no mass at all but did find some marked degeneration in L4 and L5. I am relieved to hear there is no mass, however, the radiating pain in the morning is extreme. It dissipates as the day passes and is mostly gone...mild pain by late afternoon. Two days ago I began to have a great deal of pain in my head. On bending over...as if my sinuses were infected but randomly as well. Standing up. Even walking from one place to another...not related to standing up. I don't have a cold. The pain throbs often with the beat of my heart. So much so that I can touch the side of my head and feel the pulsing actually pounding in my head. I am feeling low energy...as if I were sick. But no indication that I have anything. Finally, I have had one migraine in the past week....and I had a migraine on the 19th of November. The typical migraine...I have had maybe 5 in my life...where I am light sensitive...vomiting....fatigue...head pain. Any suggestions?

Just to note...I am a non smoker. Very light alcohol consumption...one glass of wine per week. Exercise regularly...I am an avid cyclist and ride a high end Trek road bike.

Brief Answer:
Two different conditions.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Degenative spine disease could cause low back pain that radiates to the leg by pinching the nerve(s), so, CT findings justify this condition and correlate with your symptoms.

Treatment about this condition consists on short term restriction of physical efforts, NSAID drugs and physical therapy.

Now, about headaches, first condition that needs to be addressed is probable high blood pressure.

There is need to monitor and measure your blood pressure for few days.

If high blood pressure, then cardiac work up and treatment is needed.

If blood pressure turns to be within normal ranges, other causes of headaches such sinusitis and primary headaches should be evaluated by consulting with your primary care Doctor.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
