Brief Answer:
Tests necessary for further opinion.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Swollen face and puffiness of eyes, usually points towards a renal cause.

2. Unless, there is no allergic exposure, or any recent start of medications, Serum urea and creatinine evaluation necessary.

3. As the blood pressure medications, are stopped, need to look for any changes in blood pressure - either hyper or hypotension. Do check the blood pressure.

4. Nutrition and hydration is essential. Low protein in serum can cause swelling around eyes (loss through kidney) and also affect blood pressure and weakness. Might need protein rich diet.

Before going any further, she will require, serum urea, creatinine, protein levels evaluated along with blood pressure.
If any allergic cause is present, need to look into it. If the eye has redness in it, allergic cause needs more history.

Some of the medications should not be stopped immediately without doctors advise and can cause rebound raise of the controlled values. Do discuss with your doctor regarding medications.

Do get back with tests and more history.

Hope it helps.

Doctor,
I just want to add one more thing. My mother needs to the bathroom constanly, but she only drinks very little water. can she be dihadriated, from going to the bathroom so much and refusing to drink water so she doesn't have to the bathroom so much? I keep telling her to drink water, but she refuses.

Brief Answer:
Yes, it could cause dehydration.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking again.

Frequent visits to the bathroom could be due to urinary tract infection. This frequent urination with refusal to drink water can cause dehydration.

She needs to be hydrated well. However, a urine examination to rule out any diabetes mellitus or urinary tract infection is also essential. Do get other tests, along with these.

Hydration is necessary. Dehydration can cause weakness, dizziness, and even mild headaches.

Do get the tests done.

Hope it helps.
