What Do Painful And Itchy Bumps On The Legs Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jan 2017
Question: hi Doctor,

4 days back my husband suddenly started having itching at two places on his left leg. One on the thigh and one right above the ankle. When we checked the sites, they were a little darker and reddish. Both the sites are painful and very itchy.
Today morning we saw a huge bump above the ankle which looks like an ulcer. I have attached the picture of the same. Not sure what exactly it is . My husband does not jave any other complaints. Its just that 5 days back he had visited one ENT specialist for itching and pain in his ears. They did the suction microscopy and prescribed him with Wikoryl and Ciplox tablets for 5 days.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be fixed drug eruption, oral & topical steroids & antihistaminic

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I have gone through your history as well as reviewed the attached photograph.
Your husband seems to have developed fixed drug eruption which is an allergic reaction to a drug most probably to ciplox in your husband's case.
If I was his treating doctor I would recommend him to stop these medicines.
Besides this I would recommend him to apply a steroid antibiotic combination cream like mometasone and fusidic acid cream on the affected areas twice daily and take antihistaminic like tablet levocetrizine 5 mg twice daily.
Also take a short course of oral steroids like tablet prednisolone 20 mg once daily in the morning for 5-7 days.
This will help in resolving the reaction.
These medicines are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.

Thanks for your response doctor. Is it something serious ?
My husband will stop taking Ciplox immediately.
Will it get fine on its own or we need to visit the doctor ?

Brief Answer:
Welcome!! Visit a dermatologist

Detailed Answer:
It is not something very serious but he needs to be careful in future not to consume ciplox.
He should visit a dermatologist to take treatment as it won't get fine on its own.
All the best.
