What Causes Weakness, Constant Nausea And Dizziness While Treating Diabetes And Hypertension?

Question: This question is in regards to my mother who has an internal infection and abcess following a hysterectomy/bladder prolapse surgery 2 years ago. She has been through several courses of antibiotics and has only been able to successfully complete one course in the last year (Amoxicillin), all attempts at floxacin antibiotics from her gynaecologist in the last year have made her really ill. Her urologist recently sent her to a infectious disease center that put her on the generic form of Levaquin. She has been on it for 3 days and is now feeling etremely weak, consistently naseous, and dizzy. She takes medication for diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol. She is 4'10", 118 lbs. She is very active and not used to being sick. She never naps during the day unless she is extremely ill. She is napping now and I'm concerned. Are these symptoms that are indicative of medication conflicts possibly from her diabetes or blood pressure medications (meteoformin and atenolol)? Or is this a serious reaction to the floxacin medication where she needs to stop taking it and/or do I need to seek emergency medical help for her? The infectious disease center was told prior to prescribing this medication of how she responded to similar drugs in the past. But this was a last resort before inserting a pic line.

Brief Answer:
These are normally described side effects of the antibiotic.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

I think she should complete the antibiotics course,a s there is no contraindication and there is no serious anaphylactic allergic reaction to the drug. If she had been ended up in a serious allergic reaction to the drug then I should have said, take her to ER and seek medical help immediately. But right now no need for the same.

You may consult the front desk of her treating physician about furnishing you a prescription for Ondansetron to relieve her nausea and she will also get comfort and feel less dizzy once nausea is gone, and some infection is over.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns. I will be happy to get back to you shortly. If satisfied here, please give a five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
