What Causes Tenderness And Lumpiness In Breasts?

default
Posted on Sat, 3 Jan 2015
Question: I am 56 years old.. I've had one round of hormone and testosterone pellet therapy about 4 months ago and the only change I saw was that my breasts became lumpy and tender monthly as they used to when I had periods.
My Obgyn stopped the pellet therapy as the results were not helpful but I still have extreme tenderness and breast lumpiness. Is there anything I can do to eliminate or at least reduce the uncomfortableness in my breasts?

Brief Answer:
Side effect of Testosterone pellet therapy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1) Breast tenderness is known side effect of Testesterone pellet therapy and hence this pellet therapy is not tolerated by many women. Same has happened to you.

2) It is good to know you have stopped the therapy. Now remains the waiting period for the effects to wean off especially breast tenderness.

3) This period of recovery from these hormones varies from 4 to 6 months and another hormone therapy is not possible to counter it.

4) Hence only way to reduce the symptoms to have supportive therapy as I am mentioning below.

5) Drink lots of water. This might force you to go to bathroom frequently but worth it.

6) Take tablet Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) or Aspirin. These are over the counter available drug without prescription and offer good relief.

7) Avoid coffee, alcohol and smoking for next 2 months as these aggravate the symptoms.

8) Don’t take any medicines or HRT (Hormone replacement therapy) with estrogen content as this increases the effect.

9) Eat more green leafy vegetables and fruits which enhance clearance of hormones from body.

I hope your doubt is clarified.

Let me know if you have any more queries.

Regards,

Dr. Soumya
