What Causes Swollen Face, Feet And Hands After Having Tylenol?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Feb 2015
Question: I had one of my bottom (infected broken root) removed and did 7 different locations in the mouth filling and cavaty treatment last Saturday. The bleeding stopped in several hours and I've been using advil for pain but switched to tyrenol as my body don't like advil. From 2 or 3 days ago my face, feet, and hands are swollen and have very bad head pressure with high blood pressure (now 166 over 99) I'm taking blood pressure medicine and never had this high blood pressure. I went to see doctor today he said I have kind of a allegeric reaction on tooth extraction so take benedryl tonight and from tomorrow morning take claritin. Tonight I accidently took claritin first so I took one benedryl on top of claritin. It is 1am now and I don't know If I have to go to ER or wait until tomorrow morning. My tooth extraction area still hurts and a little bit of shortness of breath with very heavy feeling of headache.

Brief Answer:
allergic reaction, antihistamine, ER

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
As far as the swelling over the face, feet and hands is concerned, it can be a allergic reaction secondary to the tyrenol. The bleeding after extraction can be because of the dislodgement of the clot secondary to vigorous gargling or taking aspirin. Nothing to be panic, you can continue antihistamines(claritin). The allergic reaction will come down in 1 day. If y(if you are not allergic).
I advise you to consult a ER immediately since you are telling shortness of breath.
I hope my answer will help you, take care.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX

Thank you for your answer for my concerns.

Yes. The swollen came down. I'm still taking tyrenol (500mg x 2 three times a day). One thing bothers me is that my blood pressure went up to 169/101 last night (about 2am) and stays there. This morning 147/88. This afternoon 160/94 again. I'm taking blood pressure medicine and with medicine my blood pressure ranges were between 110-130/77-85. A little paint on eyebrow area and top of head. I had similar symptoms when I had took work done couple of years ago so I'm thinking maybe I'm allergic to novacane?

Brief Answer:
allergic reaction, high BP, see general physician

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feed back. The allergic reaction might not be because of local anesthesia because, if it is because of local anesthesia then you would hv developped swelling over the face hand and other parts immediately soon after taking injection. Since your telling after taking medicines you developped swelling. So it can be because of the medicines or local anesthesia also. So take a test dose next time before starting the treatment.
Regarding your blood pressure, it is high and fluctuating, you need to consult a general physician and increase the dose of the antihypertensive drugs. The pain in the eye region might be secondary to increased blood pressure.
I hope my answer will help you. Take care
